A sustained drawing is one that results from a process of drawing. My work is process driven rather than aiming towards creating a product. In a drawing that means I go back and forth, line over line, different erasers, then line over line again. Graphite powder, assorted wooden and mechanical pencils, conte and pastel sticks – they all come in to play. I am with the work for a long time, and it is like I am having a conversation with it. The marks I make are pieces of information. The ground is the context that information resides in. My interaction with the ground through my information markings is a beginning of the important conversation that is art.
